Sudan calls for direct European support through its national institutions and enhanced joint cooperation
Lieutenant General Al-Sadiq Ismail Mahmoud, Advisor to the Sovereign Council for Organizations and Humanitarian Affairs, met with Mr. Wolgram Vetter, Acting Head of the European Union Delegation to Sudan, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides. The meeting discussed Sudan's desire to receive European financial support directly through its national institutions, represented by the Ministry of Finance and the relevant service ministries, with the projects being implemented by the state, while not objecting to the European Union monitoring the implementation stages through its office in the country. The Sudanese side also welcomed the European Union's new approach towards direct and full cooperation with the Sudanese government, which contributes to enhancing the effectiveness of development and humanitarian programs. The meeting reviewed the voluntary return programs currently underway, noting the urgent need to rehabilitate infrastructure, particularly in the water, electricity, and health sectors, in order to ensure the stability of the target communities and improve the level of basic services. The two sides stressed the importance of strengthening communication channels through mutual visits at various levels, especially technical and sectoral, in order to support joint coordination and enhance the prospects for partnership between Sudan and the European Union.
